How many driving instructors have got a Middlesex University First Class B.A. (Hons) Degree in Driver Education.

Are they a top grade 6 instructor (Highest grade in the UK)

Are they a grade 4 instructor (lowest grade allowed in the UK)

Ask to see their check test grade form.

Ask to see their CV (qualifications portfolio) 

Many instructors these days have websites (have a good look)

Are they flexible i.e. weekdays, evenings, weekends etc.

We "do not" allow smoking in our training vehicle. 

The DIA "Terms and Conditions" apply when Oakwell is conducting practical driving lessons.


The DSA Practical (driving)Test

The Practical Driving Test - before the test is conducted:

The examiner will ask to see your driving licence to see if it is the correct one for the vehicle being tested in, both Photocard and Counterpart must be produced on the day to the examiner.

The candidate will be asked to read a number plate at the required distance of 20.5 metres, (67 feet) with glasses if worn.

The test will last about 40 minutes and will cover about 6 miles. It will start with a Show Me / Tell Me question session (two to three questions) from the examiner about the vehicle the candidate is driving.

Licence

The candidate will be assessed on the following:
  • Start the engine of the vehicle;
  • Move away straight ahead or at an angle;
  • Overtake, meet or cross the path of other traffic and take an appropriate course;
  • Turn left and right corners correctly;
  • Stop the vehicle as in an emergency and normally, and in the case of the latter, bring it to rest at an appropriate part of the road;
  • Indicate any intended actions at appropriate times by giving appropriate signals in a clear unmistakable manner;
  • Act correctly and promptly on all signals given by traffic signs and traffic controllers and take appropriate action on signals given by other road users;
The candidate will be asked to carry out two of the three manoeuvres listed below;
  • Turn in the Road;
  • Left or Right Hand Reverse;
  • Reverse Park;
  • At some test centres the candidate may be asked to reverse into a parking bay;
Not all candidates have to demonstrate an emergency stop; this will be decided by the examiner as 1 in 3 candidates on test have to apply this manoeuvere when requested;
