DEFENSIVE DRIVER TRAINING COURSES Specially designed for company car drivers.
Welcome to the site of Oakwell Fleet Solutions. We specialise in giving you and your employees the high level of training you need to meet today's Health & Safety Legal Requirements for occupational road safety.
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 requires you, as an employer, to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the Health & Safety of all employees while at work.
You also have a responsibility to ensure that others are not placed at risk by your work related driving activities.
Under the Management of Health & Safety at work regulations 1999, you have a responsibility to manage Health & Safety effectively.
Oakwell Fleet Solution would be pleased to come into your company, and carry out an assessment of your drivers high risk areas.
It doesn't matter how experienced they are, whether they have a clean licence or not, you as an employer need to do more.
Its a fact, occupational road safety is important to everyone who travels as part of their occupation. Whether a salesperson, management, delivery drivers, service engineers, or any person on company business.
What are the benefits of further training:
1) This is vital to your employees well-being and safety.
2) This could prove finacially beneficial to the company.
3) From a corporate responsiblity view this could increase your company's reputation.
4) Your employees are more valuable to you when they are working, not at home after an accident, or in hospital.
The key benefits of fleet risk assessment and training:
1) No / Reduced accidents. 2) Customers receive deliveries on time. 3) Fuel Reduction due to better training techniques. 4) Less risk of prosecution and large legal costs. 5) A bigger and better morale from employees. 6) A better staff retention. 7) Vehicle maintenance costs reduced. 8) Less insurance claims. 9) Less vehicles of the road. 10) All round improved safety. 11) Drivers are better equipt to deal with everyday situations. 12) Drivers will actually enjoy their driving more.
The smaller the business, the bigger the impact !
A key employee off work due to a motoring accident:
1) How would the business manage. 2) How would the other employees feel at the time. 3) The reputation of the company if prosecuted. 4) The increased insurance costs. 5) The enormous legal costs. 6) An important vehicle of the road. 7) Someone has to make important decisions. 8) Stress levels, blood pressure, heart rate all rises.
Employers have a legal duty of care to ensure that anyone driving whilst on company business uses the road in a safe and responsible manner.
Latest statistics from the Department of Transport.
1) There are an estimated 3 million company cars on the roads and roughly 1 in 3 will be involved in an accident each year.
2) Company drivers who drive more than 80% of their annual mileage on work related journeys have more than 50% more injury accidents than similar drivers who do no work related mileage.
3) Every week around 200 deaths on our roads and serious injuries involve someone at work.
4) The annual risk of dying in a road accident whilst driving on business is significantly higher than the risk of dying as a result of all other workplace accidents.
5) Business drivers have a far higher collision rate than that of a private driver, in fact, somewhere between 30 to 40% higher.
6) Work related road accidents are the biggest cause of work related accidental death. The figures show that between 800 and 1000 people perish annually in work related road traffic accidents.
7) This is "alarming" - about 300 people perish each year because drivers fall asleep at the wheel.
8) Did you no - that about 4 in 10 tiredness related accidents actually involve drivers driving a commercial vehicle.
Corporate Manslaughter
From the 6th April 2008, companies, not individuals, can face prosecution and be found guilty of Corporate Manslaughter where there has been a serious failing in their management of Health & Safety.
Failings are not just limited to fatal accidents in fixed workplaces i.e. factory, office, garage, depot etc, but, it includes cases of death on the road.
Management can now, face huge fines, and even "imprisonment", for driving and vehicle failures which lead to the death of employees or members of the public.
UK Driving Laws & Corporate Manslaughter
Corporate Manslaughter is a crime commited by a company in relation to a work related death.
The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, that was implemented on the 6th April 2008 affects all companies regardless of their size or status.
Under the law companies can be prosecuted where a safety failure is the cause of work related death. Such failings now include cases of death on the road and employers can no longer pass all responsibility and blame for a fatality crash on to the driver.
Another excellent reason to have your drivers re-trained:
1) negotiate lower insurance premiums. 2) reduce vehicle repair and maintenance costs. 3) reduce excessive fuel bills. 4) reduce your employees accident figures. 5) reduce your companies excess payments. 6) You can greatly enhance your companies profile. 7) reduce your employees stress level. 8) reduce employees sick leave and / or downtime. 9) reduce the risk of a Corporate Manslaughter charge. 10) Show them - you really do care about them.
"Its a fact" - Driving a car / van is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. More people are killed driving a vehicle than any other profession.
Our training courses have been designed by: Peter J. Cook B.A. (Hons) and Steve Robinson personally.
All our courses can be designed to suit your companies needs
The true cost of a accident goes well beyond the cost of a vehicle repair:
Every year there are nearly 240,000 crashes which result in over 3,000 deaths, and 40,000 seriously injured people.
In total, there are well over 300,000 road casualties which represent a serious economic financial burden. The direct cost of road crashes which amount to deaths and / or injuries is estimated to be in the region of £3 billion a year.
Please note!
When contacting a Fleet Training provider if you ask them about their trainers qualifications you will probably be told:
"Our trainers are all DSA Fleet registered". This purely means that they have completed a 4 or 5 day training course.
1) Insist on seeing the trainers CV. (Qualifications list) 2) Ask - how long have they been qualified. 3) Ask - what DSA check test grade are they. 4) Ask - will this trainer be conducting the training.
A DSA grade 6 is the highest grade for a trainer in the UK.
Remember - your company will still be charged the same rate per day whether the trainer is highly qualified or not.
And some Fleet Training providers have been known to set the training fees somewhere around £300 - 360 per day. (that's staggering, but true - just price around).
Please compare our: 1) Prices 2) Curriculam Vitae (CV) 3) Qualifications list which we send out to all companies. 4) Trainers grade - our trainers are grade 6's (Highest grade). 5) Our courses for prices and content. 6) Certification to all successful participants. 7) Classroom presentations participants receive a certificate of attendance signed personally by Peter J.
