Specialised training is essential for this driving test. All lessons are two-hour duration and are structured to the individual need. Following all training sessions instant feedback is given, a full report on the training day will follow so the client can see what areas (if any) need attention. All training is done in the clients own vehicle because this is the vehicle they will be taking the test in.

The training will begin with:
  • An assessment of the clients driving to establish present driving skill.
  • A trainer demonstration drive so the client can observe what standard is required.
  • Every training session will begin with, a recap of the previous lesson, a discussion of the objectives and how they are going to be achieved.
  • Following the training a de- brief, and a discussion on whether the objectives have been achieved.
  • During the training session every assistance and encouragement will be given and the client's progress will be closely monitored.
  • A full written report will follow each training session.
Cardington Special Test

This special driving test at Cardington was first established in February 1976 as an attempt to improve the standards of individual driving instructors. Only qualified driving instructors are allowed to take this stringent driving test. The test is conducted at the DSA training establishment at Cardington in Bedfordshire. Cardington Special Test

About the test
The driving test is conducted by a permanent staff instructor. The test will last for 90 minutes around various road and traffic conditions where progress at all times is expected. You will also have to carry out a number of manoeuvres accurately.

Only three (3) minor driving faults are allowed, but it has to be remembered that none of the faults can be repeated (there must be no patterns of error).

The result and verbal de-brief is offered by the assessor at the end of the test. All candidates who achieve a "Grade A" pass will be issued with a certificate.

ADI's who are successful in this examination gain recognition from the DSA as amongst the most professional in the industry. This qualification is ideal for those ADIs who are considering going into Part 2 training and / or Fleet training.
