Over a quarter of a million drivers have attempted the IAM test so far; with a pass rate of about 70%. A very large percentage of companies have already put their drivers through it; and the results have proven lower accident rates and reduced insurance costs |

About the test The test will last about 90 minutes and covers 35 - 40 miles. The test starts with a vehicle check and a stationary and moving brake check. The route incorporates all kinds of road conditions, including motorways (depending on location), dual-carriageways, congested urban areas, country lanes, residential streets and main roads.
You are required to drive to the road, weather and traffic conditions. You will have to demonstrate that you can drive in a brisk professional manner observing the speed limits at all times. You will be asked to reverse around a corner, manoeuvre into a parking space and make a hill start.
A driving commentary is not required but doing one for the examiner will confirm how alert and observant you are. At Oakwell School of Motoring we do train all our trainees to do a driving commentary if they require. (This is not compulsory)
At the end of the test the examiner will give the result Pass or Fail. |
